Qué debes saber sobre la luz de emergencia V-16: requisitos, multas y modelos válidos en 2026

From January 1, 2026, all vehicles will be required to have the V-16 emergency warning light connected , which will permanently replace traditional warning triangles.

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has now published an official list of approved models that meet all the requirements. Here, we explain what you should consider to choose the right beacon, avoid fines, and ensure road safety.

What does the DGT regulations require?

The V-16 warning light is a device that alerts other drivers when a vehicle has stopped due to a breakdown or accident. According to the General Vehicle Regulations, to be valid, it must meet the following conditions:

  •        Provide full 360-degree visibility with an intensity between 40 and 700 candlepower for at least 30 minutes.
  •        It is designed to remain stable on a flat surface , even in strong winds, thanks to a magnetic system.
  •        Operate correctly between -10°C and 50°C, and withstand rain and humidity ( minimum protection level IP54 ).
  •       The most important thing: being connected to the DGT 3.0 platform , which allows automatic notification of the location of the stopped vehicle and improves safety.

Fines for non-compliance: How much are they?

Not having an approved V-16 connected light as of January 1, 2026, can be costly. The regulations establish the following penalties:

  • A fine of 80 euros for not carrying the mandatory device (either triangles or a V-16 beacon connected).
  • A fine of 200 euros for failing to properly signal an accident or breakdown, both currently and with the mandatory use of the V-16 beacon.

Which V-16 beacon should I buy?

It's important not to be swayed by the lowest price, as cheaper models without internet connectivity will be discontinued starting in 2026.

Not all models meet the requirements set by the DGT (Directorate General of Traffic). Therefore, the institution has published an official list of approved V-16 devices. Among them is Help Flash, which offers connection to the DGT 3.0 platform and includes accessories such as a protective case and batteries.

Road safety: the shift towards a safer road

The implementation of the connected V-16 warning light is not only a matter of regulation, but also a matter of safety for all drivers. By replacing the triangles with a device that eliminates the need to walk on the hard shoulder to place them and that notifies the DGT of incidents in real time, the risk of collisions is reduced and the effectiveness of signaling is improved.
