They're agile, small, and fast. We're talking about gazelles, and believe it or not, they don't only live in the African savannah. The term gazelle is increasingly being used in business circles, but do you really know what a gazelle company is and what its characteristics are? Today we'll tell you more about them and about Netun Solutions' recent designation as a 2021 Gazelle Company.
WHAT ARE GAZELLE COMPANIES?
The so-called gazelle companies have rapid, consistent, and above-average growth—even in times of crisis —both in terms of revenue and job creation.
Gazelles ' commitment to innovation makes them seem like a version of startups, but this is the only common trait. In fact, only 0.53% of gazelle companies originate from startups, while the rest are innovative SMEs .
According to the report "From Start-up to Gazelle: How Are Start-Ups Evolving toward Growth?", prepared by the Cotec Foundation in collaboration with the University of Seville, although they only represent 5% of companies with more than 10 employees, gazelle companies already create 63% of SME employment.
The data is revealing: between 2012 and 2017, revenue increased sevenfold and the number of employees sixfold, creating a total of 275,000 jobs. In an interview with the newspaper El País, Ignacio Jiménez, director of Iberinform, highlighted the ability of gazelle companies to tell us where growth niches are, stating that "They are SMEs that don't know how to walk, they just run."
WHAT REQUIREMENTS DOES A COMPANY NEED TO BE CONSIDERED A GAZELLE?
It is estimated that before the pandemic, Spain had around 30,000 companies that met the characteristics that define gazelle companies, although 2021 began with only 354 companies under this profile. Let's see what the requirements are for a company to be considered a gazelle company.
